About Butter

The beginning of something great.

Butter is a professional music producer/composer, mix/master engineer, recording artist, sound designer, writer and sound editor from Los Angeles, CA. In 1998, Butter was introduced to the Popping and Bboy dance scene where he fell in love with the street dance culture, the battle scene, the people, and more importantly the music. These music genres all originated from the boom bap era, the funk era of the 70’s and 80’s, as well as breaks beats that were sampled by other producers.

In 2016, a good friend and fellow producer, Kay Bee aka Kid Boogie, gave Butter the idea to start making music as a hobby. Butter, playing with the idea, finally made the decision to invest his time and money into building up a home studio to start making music. Within that year Butter learned how to play keys and study music theory. One year later, Butter joined a record label called, The Sleepers Recordz – started by Ivan Makvel. And in the same year Butter came out with his debut album, Blame It On The Funk. Blame It On The Funk opened up a lot of doors for Butter as he built relationships with featured artists and directors such as Yuka, Aaron Perpetuum, Pål Røed and many more.

In 2018, Norwegian Film Producer Pål Røed, reached out to Butter to use one of his songs from his debut album, Battle. The film is about a contemporary dancer who gets involved in the street dance culture. While they’re not accepted right away, she’s thrown into a battle without knowing and is discouraged from the dance culture. Butter’s song played during one of the most iconic moments in the film and has been on one of his most streamed songs since.

Talkbox

After a couple of years, Butter started to really figure out his sound and style. And even though he makes multiple genres, Butter specializes in Funk, West Coast Hip Hop, and R&B. Along with finding his sound, Butter really took his interest in working with the Talkbox. The talkbox allowed Butter to write more songs, keep the funk alive, and really provide a sound that bridged both the old school with the new school together. His second album Boogie With Me really displayed growth over the time. But when by the time he got to making the third solo album, The B-Funk Era, he really wanted to display his skills on the talkbox.

The Career of Mix and Mastering.

During his early career, Butter decided to dig deep and step into learning how to engineer. He was always intrigued by what makes the final product sound how it is. With dedication and apprenticing under Ivan Makvel, Mix/Master Engineer from Milan, Italy. Ivan has taught Butter a handful of different skill sets and techniques, but it didn’t stop there for him. Butter has studied some of the great ones and even took his education further by experimenting and referencing some of the work of which music he loves to hear.

Butter started to practice more and more with his own production and eventually started to gain clients after showcasing his engineering skills through his own music! Today, Butter now divides his time between Engineering and Producing. Taking on a handful of clients and projects, he has become a very trustworthy candidate for engineering and overall music production.
